Paper chromatography
Paper chromatography is one of the most basic methods to separate a substance for identification.
In the case shown in the picture, the sample used was food colouring.
The solvent was used was 3:1 ratio of ethanol:water.
As you can see the colour moves and it took quite awhile.
The first photo at 9.43am and the last one 1.04pm.
Today there are more advanced methods to identify substances and the one shown is only a basic one. Hope you enjoy the pics.
